Review

Dover, NJ, home to excellent Latin American food at family-owned spots like El Marino (EthnicNJ’s favorite Peruvian restaurant), also boasts wonderfully authentic Mexican comfort food.

Tacos

Pancho Villa Taqueria is a tiny spot just down the street from the Dover train station. Inside the narrow, colorful storefront, there are eight tables where you can enjoy excellent, cheap fresh Mexican fare.

Plenty of Toppings

Plenty of Toppings

Mix and match different tacos – fillings include pollo (chicken), al pastor (marinated pork), lengua (beef tongue), chorizo (sausage) and cecina (salted beef) – served on a single homemade corn tortilla. Finish your tacos like they do in Mexico D.F. with the radishes, limes, cilantro, grilled green onions and one of three different salsas at the toppings bar next to the counter. At $7 for 4 tacos, you can’t go wrong. The menu also includes huge Mexican sandwiches (tortas) served on large round soft rolls, burritos and gorditas – a larger, thicker tortilla served with the filling on top like a mini Mexican pizza.

Gordita

Pancho Villa is well worth a visit and one of my top three NJ taquerías. Spanish is helpful, but not necessary. Service is friendly, if a little slow. Be patient – your plate is being made to order by someone’s Mexican grandmother in the kitchen.
