Designed to look like the super sleek, retro, art-deco diner in your mind, the Skylark is beautiful inside and out. There’s a wide open dining area that flows into a neon lounge with a full bar.
The Skylark serves contemporary, beyond-typical diner fare. Unlike family-owned Jersey diners, the menu is limited, but ambitious. Some interesting omelettes (pulled pork, onion and cheddar), fench toast and burger varieties. My daughter liked her Caesar Wrap, but my “Classic Fish Taco,” a watery mess in a wheat tortilla, was anything but. Entrees, which we didn’t try, included, Moroccan Beef Tenderloin Tips and Five-Spice Atlantic Salmon.
When my daughter and I visited on a Saturday afternoon, the service was friendly, but a bit slow and distracted. Open ’til 2 am (1 am on Sundays).
