Persian restaurants often get lumped in the broader category of “Middle Eastern” food. One of the great historic and geographic crossroads, Persia, or modern-day Iran, has influenced, and been influenced by, many other cultures. In Persian food, one finds similarities with other Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines, from the rice dishes of South Asia to the kebabs of the Eastern Mediterranean. But Persian dishes are distinct – rice dishes flavored with fruits and nuts, grilled meats, hearty stews, flat breads and yogurt drinks and dips.
There are a growing number of restaurants in New Jersey serving authentic Persian specialties.
