Crowded and a bit confusing for someone eating here for the first time, but the quality of the food and the pride of the servers won us over.
Actually, the soup dumplings (Xiaolongbao), the house specialty, won us over. We walked in the small front room and to our right, behind a glass counter, a woman was hand-stuffing the dumplings. Yum. After waiting 15 minutes for a table (Saturday night, no reservation), we started looking for those “soup dumplings” we had read about, and couldn’t find any on the menu (English and Mandarin). When I asked our server for soup dumplings, she proceeded to scold me for not ordering them sooner, since they “take a long time.” Chastised , I ordered them anyhow, then complained to my wife. Resigned to having the dumplings for dessert, what was the first dish to hit our table? Yup, the soup dumplings.
The customers were evenly split – half Asian, half non-Asian senior citizens.
